The Centre for Trade and Development (Centad) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation from New Delhi, India, that conducts research based advocacy and capacity building activities on the impact of the global trade regime on development, with a specific focus on South Asian countries. Centad seeks to promote its objectives through research and advocacy, interactions with key decision makers within the central and state governments, civil society institutions, media and other stakeholders.
Research on the impact of trade on public health is a specific mandate of Centad. It has been exploring the interface between international trade and access with particular reference to the internal regulatory processes in India. Centad has conducted extensive research on the impact of the TRIPS regime on access to medicines, the impact of GATS on access to health services, the availability of consumer drug information in India, the practice on the use of generic names in India as trademarks, etc.
Key Responsibilities :
- To contribute proactively for building brand equity and credible profile for Centad in South Asian Region.
- To undertake and coordinate policy and programme research and consultancy on major trade and development issues in South Asia within Centad’s mandate including project proposals, collection, collation, analysis and dissemination of data and information.
- To contribute proactively for development of project proposals on Trade & Public Health issues to secure resources/funds from donors.
- To work in close coordination with Trade and Public Health Programme team members and to be the Lead Researcher in the project assigned by Centad and should be able to conduct Training Programmes on Public Health issues.
- To develop networks/alliances of various stakeholders.
- To develop links between micro-level project work and macro-level policy and practice to feed into Centad’s regional perspectives and implementation strategies.
- To explore opportunities to collaborate with key stake holders, Government, International organisations, donor agencies, research institute and CSOs in order to enhance Centad’s visibility and also for research and advocacy initiatives.
- To organise workshops, conferences, seminars etc. to build the capacity of key stakeholders and and demystify trade and development issues to encourage informed public discourses.
- To participate in the conferences, seminars, workshops organised by national/international stakeholders and contribute on behalf of Centad.
- To help develop media advocacy and to highlight research findings in print/electronic media.
Essential Qualifications:
- The candidate preferably possess Masters degree in Law from a reputed University with 2-3 years of working experience and should have an expertise on International Trade Law, TRIPS, IPR and public health issues.
- To have strong analytical skills , should be able to think logically and innovatively.
- Should have excellent communication skills and flair for writing
- To have good inter personal skills and ability to work under multi-cultural atmosphere.
- Should be able to travel if the need arises
- Sensitivity to Gender is essential.
The position is initially for six months period and likely to extend on project basis and based in New Delhi.
